Overview – Lion Explorer Safari (8 Nights / 9 Days)
The Lion Explorer Safari is a classic mobile camping adventure that journeys from Maun to Kasane (or vice versa), covering Botswana’s most iconic wildlife regions: Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai Community Area, Savute, and the Chobe Riverfront. Operating on scheduled departures with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 12 guests, this fully serviced safari combines authentic wilderness with comfort. Guests travel with a professional guide and a dedicated camp crew who handle all camp duties, while accommodation is provided in spacious ensuite Meru-style tents with bucket showers and bush loos.
The safari begins with two nights in Moremi’s Xakanaxa region, where game drives explore diverse habitats teeming with wildlife. You then continue to Khwai for two nights, enjoying day and night drives as well as a tranquil mokoro excursion along the Khwai River. The adventure carries on to Savute for two nights, a region famed for its dramatic predator–elephant interactions and ever-changing Savute Channel. The final two nights are spent at the Chobe Riverfront, with game drives along the floodplains and a scenic boat cruise on the Chobe River.
Your journey ends in Kasane, after a short game drive and breakfast, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Botswana’s contrasting landscapes and rich predator-filled ecosystems.
We will be there to give you a warm Botswana welcome when you land at Maun Airport. You will then meet your pilot for a stunning light aircraft transfer over the Okavango Delta and Chief’s Island. This flight gives you a fish eagle’s eye view of this amazing ecosystem. When you land at your remote bush airstrip within the Moremi Game Reserve, your guide will be waiting to transfer you to your mobile camp with a game drive en route. After meeting the camp team and settling in, the magic of a mobile camp becomes apparent as you find yourself in the wilderness with the sunset and drinks around the fire before a starlit dinner and a great night’s rest after falling asleep to the sounds of the African bush.
Spending your first two nights camping in the Xakanaxa / Third Bridge area, you explore the surrounding wilderness on game drives during the day. The Moremi Game Reserve protects around a third of the entire Okavango Delta ecosystem – some 5 000km2 (1 930 square miles).

Following an early breakfast, you pack camp and continue your journey to Khwai, stopping for a picnic lunch en-route. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area. You spend the next three nights camping at a campsite in the community area, exploring the Khwai floodplains on game drives both during the day and at night. Here, you will also enjoy a 2 ½ hour Mokoro Trip exploring the water ways of Khwai which is the most eastern reach of the Okavango river system. Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you a unique opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. It is important to note that night drives are not permitted within the national parks and reserves. These activities are conducted outside the boundaries of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Khwai community area.

You head further north en-route to Chobe National Park, were you spend the following two nights camping in a wilderness campsite in the Savute region, exploring the desert-like landscape of game drives. The Savute Channel and Marsh have a fickle water supply as the channel flows and stops for no visible reason but the animals are either drawn to the channel or the waterholes around the region. Savute has for the last 30 years been an extremely dry area and lately its claim to fame has been the lion and elephant interaction as they come for the few drops of water that remain in the waterholes. These dynamics are ever-changing with the unpredictable supply of water …who knows what will happen.

Leaving this parched landscape, you continue your journey north to the contrasting Chobe region of the park. You spend the last two nights camping in a wilderness campsite near the Chobe River, exploring the riverbanks and surrounding flood plains on game drives. On Day 8 you will also enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River which departs from Kasane.
